Date format with 'YYYY-MM-DD' does not get supported for esm5

When I formated the Date field as

item.activityDate = UtilitiesService.convertDateToString(<Date>item.activityDate, 'YYYY-MM-DD');

I received the following error.

TypeError: Cannot read property 'w' of undefined

We are currently using es5.
