Reference hiearchy name in calculated value forumula

qwalker asked on July 8, 2019

Hi,
In our daily usage we really want to be able to refer hierarchy name in calculated value formulas.
For example, we want to write formula like this to use different logic on different rows:
IF(hierarchy == ‘Category’, sum(‘price1’), sum(‘price2’))
Is there any workaround to this? Is it possible to include this in your dev plan?
Thanks.

Hi Vera,
Sure. Actually we were trying to do excel-like sorting. In our reports, the very common data pattern is shown in attached picture.
Basically we have a date and campaign hierarchy, and installs as a value column. We want to keep the date hierarchy sorted by date naturally, while under each date we want to sort campaigns by installs. Right now this is not possible using flexmonster, it sorts dates based on installs too, so it’s very hard to read the reports for our colleagues who are very used to excel sorting right now.
We are thinking of a workaround using calculated value. If somehow I can set calculated value to “sum(installs)” for rows on campaign level, and set it to “max(daysSince2010)” on date level, then the sorting will be what we want.
So you see the real feature request here is about sorting, and we are just trying hard to provide that using some tricks in formulas. This sorting is very common in our previous excel reports, but it’s not doable in our current online solution with flexmonster.
We really hope you can consider the sorting (or the conditional on hierarchy level thing) as one highly requested feature. It’s painful to read big and complex reports without it, and it will make flexmonster even greater.
Thanks again.

Hello,

Thank you for providing more details regarding your use case.

At the moment it is not possible to achieve the desired behavior in Flexmonster.
Nevertheless, our team agrees that such sorting is a useful feature to have and we have added your request to our customer’s wishlist.
We will notify you in case of any updates on the matter.

Also, a gentle reminder is to please provide your company name (this can be done via email).
We need this information for our records.

You are welcome to contact us in case of questions.

Best Regards,
Vera
