Open custom dialog for a specific filter and add restrictions

Hi!

I am trying to achieve the following:

1. Intercept a click on a specific filter and show a custom modal/popup/dialog, instead of the default one

2. Allow only one and at least one value to be selected in this filter (options act like radio buttons, not checkboxes)

3. Do not let this filter (or row/column) to be removed from the view

What's the best way to achieve all of it?

I am open to customize the default dialog, but I am struggling with making it behaves like the spec

Hello Gabe,

Thank you for reaching out to us.

For the described use case, we recommend creating your custom filter control. To implement your own filter, you can use the following events and API calls:

  1. filterclose
  2. filteropen
  3. setFilter
  4. getMembers

Also, you can check the following example of creating a custom member filter control: https://jsfiddle.net/flexmonster/z280kf5s/. This example is not a ready-to-use solution for your specific case. It only illustrates the general approach to implementing a custom filter.

Please let us know if it works for you. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards,
Nadia

Got it. I've managed to implement with almost the same way you've suggested in the js fiddle. I had to implement a state variable to manage history navigation, as well.

Anyway, it would be really great if:
1. We had built-in undo/redo buttons + history navigation.
2. We had an event that is fired before the popup is opened.
3. Also the same thing for when trying to remove a filter when dragging it outside of the view.
4. It would also be great to be able to control what happens inside the field list dialog, instead of having to re-implement it all from scratch.
5. Other way to look at that would be also having a control over the specific field and add a properties, such as: "draggable: false", "mandatory: true"

Is there a chance we can include these in a later update? 🙂

Hello Gabe,

Thank you for the feedback!

Your suggestions sound reasonable. We have added them to our customers' wishlist and will consider including them in Flexmonster 3.0. Our team will notify you in case of any updates on the matter.

Regarding the first point, we want to clarify what you mean by "history navigation". Could you describe the expected behavior in more detail? Are you looking for a way to browse previous states of the pivot table? It would greatly help us.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards,
Nadia

Hey Nadia,

By history navigation I mean exactly that. It should be as simple as having the "Undo" and "Redo" buttons available on the toolbar, like this textbox that I am using right now to write this reply 🙂

We could parametrize the maximum history items, for example. Other than that, it's just following the default behavior spreadsheets and document softwares have.

Thanks!
